Connecting your professional cycles
Practical Guide to Preparing for a Job Interview:
Do you know the organization you’re interested in?. Have you studied its website?
- Analyze its mission and objectives, its organizational structure, and how its business operates.
- Do the members of the management team have LinkedIn profiles?
- What kind of content have they been sharing on social media recently?
What Position Are You Applying For?
- Take a close look at the job description.
- What requirements and strengths are they looking for? Can you group them in some way? Make a list.
What Are Your Main Strengths?
Make a list of your key skills and the specific strengths you have developed through your years of experience. Next to each skill and strength, write down how you can demonstrate it. Then connect each strength to one or more of the job requirements.
How Well Do You Fit the Role?
- Next to the list of strengths and requirements for the role, note which ones you meet and which ones you do not.
- For the ones you meet, how can you demonstrate them?
- For the ones you do not meet, how could you compensate for those gaps or show your motivation?
Do You Have Your Resume Ready?
Review it, paying particular attention to the following points:
- What story do you want your resume to tell? Ask a friend to read it without you present and then summarize it for you.
- Does their summary match the story you wanted to tell?
- Does your resume include an objective or introductory statement?
Take Time to Prepare for the Job Interview:
- Prepare an outline for the interview covering at least the following areas: your motivation, strengths and skills, and weaknesses.
- Using the dots you have chosen to connect, prepare the story you want to tell during the interview and a closing statement that highlights your strengths and motivation.
